Problem

Architects working on hospital projects require many months of meetings with various consultants and additional expertise from medical planners. They also need to consider more than a thousand pages of authority guidelines, regulations and codes while juggling ever-changing requirements from clients. This results in an estimated 30% more time and money wasted per project.

Introducing BestFit

A Revit plugin that automatically generates & optimises layouts.

Large database of guidelines from authorities & medical planners

No more manual checking against authority guidelines and tedious modifications to your design! With BestFit, simply select which guidelines you would like your design to adhere by and automatically generate your layouts!

Extensive analysis of people flow within generated layouts

Layouts are generated and optimised after thorough analysis of hundreds of layouts to determine the various types of rooms as well as the different flows of patients and staff throughout the hospital.

Powerful generation & optimisation algorithms

Using the NSGA-II algorithm, BestFit gets the best trade-off between multiple specified objectives after several rounds of evaluation of the solutions with Python libraries to compute the best layouts based on specified parameters.

Step 1

Schedule of Accommodations

Input the type, quantity, unit area and total area of rooms to generate according to our automatically instantiated Excel template. Simply save and close to store the information for the next few steps.

Step 2

Parameter Selection

Select constraints and objectives for the plugin to generate and optimise layouts for. Constraints include local building codes and essential guidelines for building hospitals. Objectives include minimizing waiting area, minimizing average distance between consultation rooms and waiting areas as well as maximising consultation rooms.

Step 3

Zoning & Circulation

Indicate circulation path and select boundary to generate layout within. Depending on whether your selected layout is too small or large, an error message or a warning will appear, detailing that the generation of rooms indicated in the SOA is impossible due to the small size, or that an excess amount of empty space would be generated due to the large size.

Step 4

Layout Generation

Automatically generate many optimised layouts options to choose from. View the objective function values of each objective chosen in the earlier step to make a more well-informed decision when choosing the most optimal layout.

Step 5

Next Steps

Generate the furthest distance from room to fire escape, visibility graph of the selected layout and even do a walkthrough of the generated plan!
